April 13 in Music History: Diana Ross makes her first solo appearance, David Bowie releases Aladdin Sane

1965 – The Beatles record the song “Help!” during an evening session at Abbey Road in London. That same night, they win their first Grammy Awards: Best New Artist and Best Performance by a Vocal Group for “A Hard Day’s Night.”

1969 – Diana Ross makes her first television appearance as a solo act, performing on Dinah Shore’s NBC special Like Hep.

1973 – David Bowie releases Aladdin Sane.

1996 – Rage Against The Machine appears on NBC’s Saturday Night Live. Their two-song performance is cut to one song when the band attempts to hang inverted American flags from their amplifiers.
