Local rock ‘n’ rollers Sheer Mag are tapping into some Al Green inspiration on “Need to Feel Your Love,” the title track of their forthcoming debut LP. The record drops on July 14th while the band is in Europe but they’ll be taking it out on the road in the fall for a U.S. tour that stops at Union Transfer on August 26th.

A bright groove that you’d expect to hear in an 80s hit or Blood Orange track opens “Need to Feel Your Love,” giving it a much poppier personality than the more classic rock stylings of previous single “Just Can’t Get Enough.” Of course Sheer Mag’s sweet edginess is still there in singer Tina Halladay’s vocals, but overall this is a snappy pop jam filled with earworm hooks. Meanwhile, the lyrics’ soulful reflection on the future of a relationship certainly gets into some heartaching Green territory, as Halladay explains:

“[It’s about] when you get to the point of a romantic relationship and you feel as if you have done everything to give that person a chance to make the most out of it and you are at the breaking point and you NEED them to do something more, even if you don’t exactly know that is.”

Stream “Need to Feel Your Love” below, followed by the full run of U.S. tour dates. Tickets and information for the Union Transfer show with Purling Hiss and Haram can be found here.
