XPN’s Artist to Watch for July is singer-songwriter Jade Jackson. Ms. Jackson released her debut album, Gilded, on Anti- Records in May.
Gilded, was produced by Mike Ness of Social Distortion. Jade’s songwriting and attention to lyrical detail drew his interest to produce the album, and he’s done a great job of coaxing the rock out of this country influenced singer-songwriter on her debut.
Jackson is a little bit Lucinda Williams and a little bit Kathleen Edwards, inspired by her dad’s record collection including records like Bruce Springsteen’s Nebraska, sides by Creedence Clearwater Revival, Merle Haggard, The Smiths, Hank Williams, and (of course) Social Distortion. She’s got a rough and tumble, punky, country heart and great songs to match.
Jackson plays The Fillmore on August 4th, opening for Social Distortion. Below, listen to her recent World Cafe interview and performance, and watch her perform “Good Time Gone.”
