This week marks, believe it or not, the third time Pat Brier has sat at the drumkit in WXPN Studios in the past six months. Back in January, he kept the beat for the expansive indie rock outfit Three Man Cannon; the following month, he played with the propulsive punk trio Eight.

This week, though, is a little different. In Queen Jesus, Brier fronts the band from behind the kit.

What started as a recording project has blossomed into a six piece band where Brier is joined by friends from Three Man Cannon, Sun Organ and more. Their Tar Ranch EP came out back in November on Uncle Rat’s Tapes, and it finds Brier stretching out to spectral psych rock expanses with tonal touches of folk. Witness it in action as the band performs “Would You Come Back?” in XPN studios: the song is equal parts Pink Floyd, Spaceman 3 and Neil Halstead.

The band heads out on a weekend run of tour dates with Philly punks Telepathic later this month; they’ll be at Johnny Brenda’s on July 30th, and more information can be found at the XPN Concert Calendar. Listen to Queen Jesus’ entire Key Studio Session below.
