Members of Clique, Soul Glo and Sororoity Noise team up in En Route

The seeds of Philly-based rock trio En Route came from guitar player and songwriter P.J. Carroll, of the punk four-piece Clique. Carroll teamed up with Soul Glo’s Rubin Polo on bass and Sorority Noise’s Charlie Singer on drums for a set of slightly downtrodden, guitar-infused songs self-described as “early ’90s slow core” on their EP, Then is a Song.

En Route deviates a little bit from Clique in mood and intensity, though they could swim in a similar genre. Polo, on the other hand, might be aching to play something more upbeat, considering Soul Glo’s high-energy punk tendencies — though maybe this pace is a welcome change. Sorority Noise also to plays a lot of high-energy songs, though they have some slower, more introspective tunes. In En Route, all three members seem to be exploring a much more somber sound outside their respective comfort zones, but not too far out.
