Rapper Marcus Harris, aka MH the Verb, relocated from Philly to the west coast earlier this year — but he returns east this spring, with a sci-fi tinged new project in tow.

Afronaut is LP made in collaboration with the electronic music ensemble Buscrates that, through sounds and visuals, will dissect the consumerism of 21st century American society through the eyes of a traveler from another time. As MH told Mass Appeal:

The visual depict our mythical hero exploring the Earth as she surfaces on the beach and wonders into the forest. The ‘Afronaut’ is a futuristic (s)hero who travels back to today’s complicated moment in time to inspire and empower the artists and youth of the world. She is a symbol of power and progress and a theme for the work of Arthouse95.

Get an introduction to the saga through this video for “Traffic,” a song we first heard in MH the Verb and Arthouse 95’s Key Studio Session; in that setting, goaded on by the ace instrumental duo Trap Rabbit, the song was jammed out to an expansive 7 minutes. The album and video version of the song are a much more focused two and a half minutes, and we’re psyched to see / hear where the Afronaut story goes from here.
