It’s day two of the inaugural Philly Music Fest at World Cafe Live, and Strand of Oaks take the stage for a headlining set. The festival’s eclectic lineup seeks to showcase local musicians and encourage Philadelphians to support our scene. Also performing today are Steve Gunn, Deadfellow, Ivy Sole, Shannen Moser, and lots more. Check out the festival’s website for tickets, set times, and more info. We most recently saw Strand of Oaks rocking the Marina Stage at this year’s XPN Fest; read a recap of that performance here. Below, watch a video from the band’s recent World Cafe session.

Local garage rock faves Soraia host a record release party for their new album Dead Reckoning tonight at MilkBoy. The record isn’t out until Oct. 13, but this show should provide enough of a preview to hold us over til then. Known for their high-powered passionate rock ‘n roll tunes, Soraia’s captivating energy is sure to bring a rousing crowd out to tonight’s show. Soraia is joined by Wanted Man and Joey DiTullio Band. If you’re out in the burbs, you can also catch Soraia at their show in Pottstown on Sunday. Watch the band’s video for “Quicksand” below. Find tickets and more information on the XPN Concert Calendar.

In the middle of an extensive world tour,  Thundercat makes a stop at Union Transfer tonight in support of his recent epic 23-track album Drunk. The quirky Grammy-winning singer/bassist is known for his genre-bending tunes that take funk, soul and jazz influences and combine them with sometimes dark, sometimes comedic, always honest and observant lyrics. Listen to former XPN Gotta Hear Song of the Week “Show You The Way,” featuring Michael McDonald and Kenny Loggins, below.
