Philly indie pop group Queen of Jeans recently released a cover of Aaliyah’s “Are You That Somebody” on SoundCloud, and they’ve given this classic R&B jam a spacey twist that you’d probably never even think of. This cover is stripped down and guitar heavy; it echoes and flows and vibes and I love when artists totally reinvent a popular song. The vocals remind me of a darker, more soulful Birdy. It sounds like a completely different song, in the best way possible.

Queen of Jeans is no stranger to this chilled, stripped genre. They have a self-titled EP out on Spotify now, and it’s bursting with enigmatic vocals and swirling guitar and drum patterns. It’s a unique sound that encompasses the full effect of their psychedelic look. Check out their Aaliyah cover below, and stream their EP, Queen of Jeans, and catch them on tour this week with Vita and the Woolf. Dates below.

Tour Dates
OCT 17 — DC9 — Washington, DC
OCT 18 — The Red Room at Cafe 939 — Boston, MA
OCT 19 — Alphaville — Brooklyn, NY
