David Letterman was awarded the Mark Twain Prize For American Humor at the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC last night, and Eddie Vedder was among those on hand to honor the former late night TV talk show host.

Pearl Jam’s Eddie Vedder joined up with Letterman’s old bandleader Paul Shaffer for a cover of Warren Zevon’s “Keep Me In Your Heart.” Zevon had been one of David Letterman’s favorite guests over the years, and back in 2002 he appeared as the lone guest on the Letterman show as he was battling terminal lung cancer. Warren Zevon died on September 7, 2003 at the age of 56.

Watch some fan video of Eddie Vedder’s performance, followed by video of Warren Zevon’s last appearance on the David Letterman show in 2002.
