Enongo Lumumba-Kasongo wowed us as the unapologetically herself beat-maker / spoken-word-style lyricist Sammus, at her recent Folk_KEY-delphia Studio Session. Tonight, she’ll no doubt do the same at the Philadelphia Museum of Art for tonight’s Afrofuturist Affair Costume Ball, which is organized by Black Quantum Futurism and presented as part of Philadelphia Assembled. The night will also feature performances by Moor Mother, King Britt / Fhloston Paradigm, MovaKween, and :3LON; along with tarot card reading, body paintings, mask making, a fashion show, and a ton more. Find additional info on the free event here, and watch the Alanis Morissette inspired video for “Mighty Morphing” below.
If you didn’t already win some tickets from our mini sweepstakes earlier this week, I’m here to let you know that Hezekiah Jones will be fronting the bill at Underground Arts tonight. Speaking of the bill, the rest of the lineup is pretty dang cool as well, with Deadfellow and Ali Wadsworth also performing. Listen to Hezekiah Jones’ track, “If You Harden On The Inside” which benefitted the Women’s Law Project, below; then, find more info on the show at the XPN Concert Calendar.
I know I’m super late to the game, but I just recently became obsessed with the breezy psych vibes of Brooklyn’s Beach Fossils. Just in time too, because they’re playing an insane gig at First Unitarian Church tonight alongside a dream-worthy lineup of Lindsey Jordan’s crunchily introspective project, Snail Mail (very, very stoked about) and LA’s chill pop dudes, Raener. Find info on the show here, and listen to “Down the Line” below.
