Somewhere in the middle of Strawberry Runners‘ recent tour, which included an appearance at Radiator Hospital‘s record release gig a few weeks back, bandleader Emi Night found time to relocate to Philadelphia. This makes Strawberry Runners one of, if not the, newest Philly bands, and the move couldn’t have come at a better time — the band released five-track EP In the Garden, In the Night just a few weeks ago, and now they have a video out for “Garden Hose.”
The band members filmed the lighthearted video on their iPhones, documenting the joyful and carefree nature of a day off spent with friends under the Colorado skies. “Garden Hose” captures the bright folk-pop spirit of the EP, with Night’s light and clear vocals driving the effortlessly sunny melody. Amid the lively trumpet and the warm harmonies, it’s impossible not to smile along as Night tells us to leave our fears and anxieties behind and jump through that metaphorical garden hose (or in the video’s case, a literal swimming pool).
Night, an Indiana native, started Strawberry Runners in Denver and made stops in Connecticut and Brooklyn before settling in Philly. Due to its nomadic nature the band has remained largely Night’s solo project, with a rotating lineup of touring members that currently includes bassist Ali Donohue of the Philly band Fleabite (who’s also a touring member of Waxahatchee).
