XPN MusicNotes: Mark Ronson and Diplo pay homage to Philly’s Silk City in new joint project

via Pitchfork

Philadelphia’s Silk City has been a staple for late night bites and music fixes for decades, and now the Spring Garden Street bar and club is the inspiration behind a new, joint project between singer-songwriter / producer Mark Ronson and DJ Diplo.

Ronson and Diplo have named their new collaboration Silk City as an homage to the place where Diplo got his start as a DJ, and the duo will make their first live performance at this year’s Governors Ball in NYC where Jack White, the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, & Eminem are the headliners.

Last summer Diplo told GQ Magazine that he & Ronson were working on a new disco album together.

“I’ve known Mark almost since I was in high school. I met him when I first went to Philly. I taught at a school, and he was classmates with my boss. I went to go see him play Allen Iverson’s birthday party at the Palmer, which is an all-black club. I just thought, This guy is cool. Actually, me and Mark are doing a collab album. You know the album I did with Skrillex, Jack Ü? Me and Mark are trying to do something with disco music.”

No music from Silk City is out at the moment, but watch solo tracks from each of the artists below.
