Modern rock royalty Jack White has announced the details of his third full-length solo album. Boarding House Reach will be released later this year via Columbia Records, as well as White’s own label Third Man Records, and while no set release date is public yet, a 7″ single with two new tracks is now available.

“Connected By Love” is a two-chord, meditative slow burner with glorious harmonies on the refrain by Ann and Regina McCrary of Nashville gospel trio The McCrary Sisters. The song meditates on attachment and desire, with White howling “I wanna be directed by your love.” Watch a music video for the song below.

The single also features the decidedly more bizarre “Respect Commander,” which opens sounding like an late 80s house music freakout — aggressively squealing synthesizers intersecting at odd angles — before shifting gears into psychedelic swampy blues at a minute 40, then a cathartic lead solo as conga drums play away in the background. The theme here is the dynamics of power and dominance, and White’s last words before the song barrels to its conclusion are “I want her to control me all night long.” Listen below.

White’s band’s for these recordings features a seasoned team of players. Drummer Louis Cato played with Beyoncé, Q-Tip, and John Legend; keyboardist Neal Evans’ resume includes Soulive, Talib Kweli, and John Scofield; percussionist Bobby Allende has worked with David Byrne; and the lineup is rounded out by bassist Charlotte Kemp Muhl The Ghost of a Saber Tooth Tiger, and synthesizer player DJ Harrison.

Pre-order the 7″ here, via Third Man Records. Jack White and his band are playing a run of east coast festivals this summer, including Boston Calling (tickets / info), Governor’s Ball in New York City (tickets / info), and Shaky Knees in Atlanta (tickets / info).
