The best is yet to come for Washington State singer-songwriter Brandi Carlile. Garnering a devote folk following with her sophomore LP, 2007’sThe Story, Carlile topped the charts with the title track. Now, Carlile plans to release the follow-up full length to her 2015 Grammy-nominated album, The Firewatcher’s Daughter. “Sugartooth” is the third single from that forthcoming album, By The Way, I Forgive You, out February 16 on Elektra Records.

Starting off the song in an unhurried manner, Carlile sets the stage narrating the aches and pains a “slave to a sugartooth” may feel. Quickly picking up the pace, Carlile sonically draws the curtains by displaying her impressive vocal range, backed by a bright, full Americana backing band. Performed live below, Carlile and company add warm dimension to the song in the intimate live setting, recorded in Nashville at RCA’s Studio A.

“Sugartooth” is the latest single off Carlile’s 6 LP, joining “The Joke” and “The Mother,” the former appearing on former President Barack Obama’s Favorite Songs of 2017 List. Brandi Carlile will embark on tour this spring, appearing in Philadelphia at The Merriam Theater on May 18th. Carlile also appeared on an episode of NPR’s World Cafe this week; listen to that performance, and an interview with host Talia Schlanger, below.
