1959 – Buddy Holly makes his last recordings alone with an acoustic guitar and tape recorder in his NYC apartment. “Peggy Sue Got Married,” “Crying, Waiting, Hoping,” “That’s What They Say,” “What to Do,” “Learning the Game,” and “That Makes It Tough” would eventually be overdubbed and posthumously released by Coral Records.
1960 – Sam Cooke signs a deal with RCA Records.
1963 – The Drifters record “On Broadway.” Elsewhere, Gerry & the Pacemakers produce “Away from You” and “Pretend” in their first recording session.

1966 – The Beach Boys go into the studio to begin recording “Wouldn’t It Be Nice,” which would be the opening track on their forthcoming album Pet Sounds.

1968 – Dr. John releases his debut album, Gris-Gris. Aretha Franklin releases Lady Soul.
1971 – John Lennon and Yoko Ono begin recording “Power to the People.”

1982 – The Church release their self-titled, debut album internationally, after releasing it as Of Skins and Heart in their home country of Australia.
