Free at Noon Flashback: Kississippi brings bedroom pop to the big stage Friday afternoon

Philadelphia-based indie pop band Kississippi, under the guidance of fearless leader Zoë Reynolds, took the stage for a twinkling midday set Friday ahead of an eventful weekend here in Philadelphia. Most known to pack houses and basements, the band was caught off guard at the size of the WCL midday crowd. Kississippi ripped through their set, nonetheless, and gratefully appreciated the turnout by the mass of Midnight Green-clad fans.

Donning a pink-frosted sprinkled Fender, Reynolds and company debuted a handful of new songs from the group’s forthcoming album, Sunset Blush, which they’re releasing this spring.

Unreleased track “Mirror Kisser” featured huge drum hits countered with split-seconds of silence, a staggering combination that injected high levels of energy into the set. Featuring their latest single “Cut Yr Teeth” early on in the set, the band easily translated their bedroom pop-vibes to the big stage.

Playfully shooing her band offstage, Reynolds breathtakingly played through “Shamer” solo to end the set. It was here that her’ vocals shone at the forefront of the track, blessing the crowd and the airwaves with one of the most beautiful voices in the city.
