The Strokes’ guitarist Albert Hammond Jr. just made a bunch of announcements — first, he has a new solo album coming out in March called Francis Trouble. Second, he’s shared the first song from the album, “Muted Beatings.” Third, and most importantly, if you ask us, he’s heading out on an extensive tour that includes a stop right here in Philly. Hammond will appear at the First Unitarian Church on March 30.

Francis Trouble, out March 9 on Red Bull Records, is a thematic nod to Hammond’s stillborn twin brother. Lest you worry that the subject matter is too heavy, Hammond said in a press release: “What the music says may be serious, but as a medium it should not be questioned, analyzed or taken too seriously. I think it should be tarted up, made into a character, a parody of itself. The music is the mask the message wears and I, the performer, am the message.”

Listen to “Muted Beatings” below and watch Hammond’s recent appearance on “Conan” here. Tickets and more information on the upcoming show will be available on the XPN Concert Calendar.
