Philly hip hop producer Rolled Gold just reworked and dropped a single called “Night Owls Theme” from an upcoming project, featuring local MCs Ai-Que and the revered Reef The Lost Cauze. The title “Night Owl Theme” is an appropriate match for the lyrics that deal with themes of hard work and the kinds of pensive thoughts you have at night time.

Ai-Que takes the first verse, spitting lively bars about aspirations and work ethic. Reef The Lost Cauze is the icing on the cake, rapping about things like gentrification and personal growth with the delivery of a certified rap veteran.

Rolled Gold recently went off the grid to work on building his skills as a producer without sampling, and that hard work has definitely paid off. With sparse, accented horns (my favorite!), whimsical flute and xylophone, and a killer rhythm section, this song has the musicality and vibe of the 70s, making it the kind of song you would expect to hear on say, the Luke Cage soundtrack.

Check out the single below.
