It’s a terrific Tuesday of new music including Courtney Barnett’s cover of the INXS classic “Never Tear Us Apart”; Chris Cornell’s contribution to a Johnny Cash tribute album, and Laura Veirs’ new song featuring vocals from Sufjan Stevens.

First up: Barnett has recorded a cover of INXS’ classic “Never Tear Us Apart” for a new Apple commercial airing in Australia to celebrate same-sex marriage. The spot, titled “First Dance,” features an acoustic version of the song over video of couples dancing at their weddings; same-sex marriage was legalized in Australia late last year. Back in 2014, Barnett covered all of INXS’ 1987 album Kick, on which “Never Tear Us Apart” can be heard. Watch the Apple commercial below.

On April 6th a tribute album called Johnny Cash: Forever Words will be released. Chris Cornell was among those who contributed vocals to a collection of songs created from Cash’s unused poetry, lyrics, and letters. Cornell sings on the tune “You Never Knew My Mind” which marks one of his final known recordings before his death in May 2017.

The project was curated by Cash’s son, John Carter Cash, who says the song combines a track Johnny Cash wrote in 1967, “You Never Knew My Mind”, with another unreleased song, “I Never Knew Your Mind.” John Carter Cash says Chris Cornell was a longtime fan of his father and felt a connection to the country legend.

Other appearing on the album include Kris Kristofferson, Willie Nelson, Rosanne Cash, Carlene Carter, Kacey Musgraves, and Alison Krauss & Union Station. Listen to Chris Cornell sing “You Never Knew My Mind” below.

Laura Veirs has shared a new song called “Watch Fire,” featuring Sufjan Stevens. The tune appears on Veirs’ forthcoming new album called The Lookout, which comes out April 13th. The album is said to also feature Jim James of My Morning Jacket, Karl Blau, and others. Listen to Watch Fire below.
