One of the newer faces in the Philly music scene, Ellen Tiberio-Shultz, better known by their band name Ellen Siberian Tiger, is the most recent guest on Dan Drago’s long-running 25 O’Clock podcast. The songwriter sat down for a conversation with Drago ahead of this week’s snowstorm, and the two cover everything from Tiberio-Shultz’s upbringing in State College, PA to their brief stint as the drummer in a Liz Phair cover band.

Tiberio-Shultz, a Berklee College of Music alum, talks about being one of the only non-men in the guitar program: “[It] was really upsetting [because] when I asked a lot of questions, I ended up being treated like a complete idiot the entire time I was in these classes [at Berklee]. And I think it was one hundred percent because of my gender,” they said.

Listen to the podcast below to find out more — including what Tiberio-Schultz’s least favorite band is, their current Nirvana phase, and studying guitar under the same teacher as Annie Clark.

Ellen Siberian Tiger plays Johnny Brenda’s this Saturday, March 10 with Son Step, Paperhaus and The Ada Babar Situation. Find tickets and more information on the XPN Concert Calendar.
