At the beginning of March, Philly indie rock trio Cave People released “Wait,” off of their upcoming EP Kingfisher, which is set to drop April 6th on Stereophondon Records. For an early listen, check the YouTube video down below to stream the entire 11-minute EP. It’s comprised of “Try,” “Wait,” “Mouth,” and “Fair,” and man, it’s worth a listen.

Opener “Try” is an especially heavy one, due to lead singer Dave Tomaine’s haunting vocals. You’ve already heard the wistful “Wait”; it has a steady upbeat melody that contrasts the emotional lyrics. “Mouth” has a similar feel to “Try,” but slower, and with an intense aura of detachment. Closing track “Fair” takes a more aggressive approach with its steadfast grunge guitar riffs.

Overall, the Cave People’s EP Kingfisher does a good job incorporating different textures and emotional melodies throughout the four tracks while keeping true to their melancholic style. The band celebrates its record release at Boot and Saddle, with Petal and Body Guard, on April 12th.
