Get things started tonight with prolific indie rockers Guided By Voices; keep it running throughout the week with soul master Bilal, or heartrending songwriter Julien Baker; get lost in the tones of etheral soundscaper Madam Data, then wrap up with The Mountain Goats in Ardmore. Here are 16 shows you can see in and around Philly over the next seven days.
Tuesday 4/17: Guided By Voices at Union Transfer
“Guided By Voices at Union Transfer” is a series of words that might make you do a double-take. But it’s real – the 90s icons are still going strong, and will be playing there Tuesday night. And since there aren’t any other acts on the bill, it’s a safe bet that this’ll be a pretty special performance. Don’t waste time wrapping your head around how this show is actually happening, just get to the gig. // 8 p.m., $33 – $35, AA // TIX + INFO – Sarah Hojsak
Tuesday 4/17: Nap Eyes at Johnny Brenda’s
Canadian indie rockers clearly made a great impression on their last Philly audience when they turned up as a surprise gem of an opener for last fall’s much-anticipated Alvvays show. The band released a new LP, I’m Bad Now, just last month, and now they’re coming back to our fine city to play a proper headlining gig at Johnny Brenda’s Tuesday night. She-Devils and Inlets will open the show. // 8 p.m., $12, 21+ // TIX + INFO – S.H.
Wednesday 4/18: Tancred at Boot & Saddle
Power pop songwriter Jess Abbott, better known as Tancred, has an off-night from her tour with Julien Baker this Wednesday, and she’s stopping by Boot & Saddle to play a headlining gig. Better yet, she’s enlisted a local opener for the show – and it’s not just any local opener, it’s Augusta Koch from Cayetana, who will be performing solo material. Now that’s what I call a stacked gig. // 8:30 p.m., $10 – $12, 21+ // TIX + INFO – S.H.
