Hardwork Movement’s Sterling Duns revamps a throwback in “Put It On” cover
With the summer right around the corner, artists left and right are dropping tracks to bump at cookouts and house parties. On this wave is Sterling Duns of Hardwork Movement, who just flipped a 90s classic with a cover of Big L’s “Put It On.” His cover utilizes the original, old school hip hop instrumental with it’s upright bass and sharp snares.
Duns keeps the same energy Big L showcased in the original, with a few references to Big L’s version scattered around, as he reflects on the recent state of the world including gun violence, the Starbucks protest, Kendrick’s Pulitzer, and his overall love of Philly. Even with some of the heavier topics mentioned, Duns keeps it light and refreshing, making it a well-rounded track that should appeal to a lot of different folks.
