It does not appear that The National are preparing to release a new album anytime soon —  they did just put out their four-years-in-the-making Sleep Well Beast in September, after all — but they performed a new song at their Homecoming Festival in Cincinnati over the weekend.  The new song from the National is called “Light Years” and the band played it live, on-stage last night, when they also performed their 2007 album Boxer in full. They were also joined Lisa Hannigan and Ben Sloan.

Watch some fan video of The National performing Light Years below; the band’s next Philly appearance is at The Mann Center with Cat Power and Phoebe Bridgers this September.

George Clinton of Parliament/Funkadelic plans to retire from touring next year. The “P-Funk” maestro tells Billboard magazine:

“Anyone who has been coming to the shows in the past couple of years would have noticed that I’m out front less and less, but recent pacemaker surgery is not the reason why I will retire. Parliament/Funkadelic has always been about the music. That’s the real P-Funk legacy. They’ll still be funkin’ long after I stop.” “

George Clinton plans to do his last show with Parliament/Funkadelic in May 2019.  P-Funk announced their 2018 tour dates last fall, with Clinton set to make all scheduled appearances. Check out the tour dates here.
