It’s safe to say that Death Cab for Cutie is one of those bands that people go wild for — with good reason. So when murmurs Death Cab’s return broke with the band’s announcement of a few tour dates in various random corners of the earth (The Netherlands, Brazil, Idaho), we began to wonder. Now, we can safely confirm that the band is indeed expanding its tour to more readily accessible locales, including a stop at the Tower Theater on October 9.

Death Cab’s last release was 2015’s Kintsugi. Their last Philly appearance was in September of that year, when they played both Made In America and an afterparty at the TLA. Frontman Ben Gibbard has been performing as a solo artist lately, and also notably re-formed the beloved supergroup The Postal Service a few years back. No matter what project he’s currently leading, it’s easy to see how influential Gibbard’s music is among our community — note the Coping Skills song “Fuck Me Up, Ben Gibbard“; last year the band also planned a whole tour around seeing Gibbard in concert. (Hey Gibbard, if you’re looking for a local opener for the Philly show, I’m sure our pals in Coping Skills would be happy to help out.)

Find more information as it becomes available on the XPN Concert Calendar.
