Chicago-based artist discovery platform Audiotree produces a series called “Far Out,” among many other cool music-related videos. The session is somewhat self-explanatory: artists perform their tracks in unconventional places outside of the studio and post them online for all to watch. Previous editions featured Philly art rockers Palm in a Polish restaurant and banquet hall, Elvis Depressedly in a laundromat, and B Boys performing in a parish gymnasium, basketball hoops and all. The concept is intriguing and entertaining for music fans, and the latest installment features XPN-faves Sunflower Bean, who we’ll be seeing at the end of this month when they perform at the XPoNential Music Festival.

Chicago furniture store Salvage One played host to the Brooklyn-based trio for a session featuring songs off the band’s sophomore album Twentytwo In Blue. Ornate mirrors and lights don the walls while a white sofa sits beside the band’s amps for first track “I Was a Fool.” The regal atmosphere of the store is naturally fitting for the fashionable band. Lead vocalist and bassist Julia Cumming has modeled for revered fashion house Saint Laurent, while drummer Jacob Faber and co-vocalist/guitarist Nick Kivlen both look the part of rockers turned models.

The band performed a special live version of previous Gotta Hear Song of the Week track “I Was a Fool” in the store. Kivlen’s microphone is an old telephone for this rendition, and gives off a unique sound for his vocal contributions. This live version also features an extended guitar solo care of Kivlen, one of the highlight’s from the band’s live shows.

Second track, “Memoria,” features the band switching locations within the store, occupying more space the the store’s cavernous warehouse space. Stream both tracks from the session below, and head over to the XPN Fest website for more information and ticket. Sunflower Bean performs at Wiggins Park on Saturday, July 28th.
