Watch Queen of Jeans subvert nostalgia and gender norms in a new video for “U R My Guy”
Philadelphia’s Queen of Jeans are always playing with the past, whether it be in their spacey reinterpretations of 60’s bubblegum or in their tastefully dated visual aesthetics. Now, in their new video for “U R My Guy” from this spring’s Dig Yourself album, the band takes aim at another nostalgic touchstone: romantic comedies.
In a lovingly irreverent reenactment of the classic 10 Things I Hate About You, Queen of Jeans joyfully riff on gender and courtship while miming to their own sugary pop harmonies. Talking of the video, lead singer Miriam Devora said “We wanted to explore some of the pop culture we loved in our youth through a satirical lens. It ties into the themes of the song pretty well, playing with gender norms and queerness.” Check out the video below and make sure you watch to the delightful twist ending.
