NYC rockers Interpol trekked around Mexico City to shoot their latest music video with director Gerardo Naranjo (Narcos). The video to lead single “The Rover” intersects with the band’s recent press conference, which featured a surprise interruption by The Rover himself, actor Ebon Moss-Bachrach (The Punisher, Girls).

The music video starts out like a disorienting fever dream and follows a gang of locals who adopt Moss-Bachrach as one of their own. The shaky footage follows the group around the city, through markets and streets, until they ultimately end up at the site of Interpol’s press conference. After the drunken and oddly spiritual disruption, the video cuts to choppy shots of Moss-Bachrach sparring with frontman Paul Banks at the empty site of the press conference.

According to a press release, Banks describes the video as “the origin story of the character described in the song, the birth of a cult leader.” Hopefully we see more of this mysterious figure as Interpol rolls out new material, as well as more cameos. In this video, “The Rover” finds Albert Hammond Jr. on the streets as the gang takes him in.

Along with the release of the band’s 6th studio album, Marauder out August 24th on Matador Records, Interpol also announced an accompanying headlining tour set to stop at Union Transfer on August 23rd. The show has been super sold out since it was announced, so enjoy the evening, lucky ticket holders. Stream the music video to “The Rover” below and preorder Marauder through Matador’s webstore.
