The week starts with blues rock ripper Selwyn Birchwood out in the burbs and wraps up in South Philly with the contemplative singer-songwriting of The Afterglows. In between: classic soul, immersive psych, punk rock and more. Here are 17 concerts to see in and around Philadelphia this week.

Tuesday 8/21: Selwyn Birchwood at Sellersville Theater

Sellersville Theater regular and guitar and lap steel extraordinaire Selwyn Birchwood returns to the Lehigh Valley theater this Tuesday night, and he’ll joined by blues singer Nikki Hill. Birchwood and his band have been a marathon tour this summer supporting their latest album, 2017’s Pick Your Poison, a standout addition to his discography which, according to the Blues Rock Review, is helping “to keep the blues genre alive.” // 8 p.m., $21.50 – $30, AA // TIX + INFO – Sarah Hojsak

Wednesday 8/22: Sidney Gish at Everybody Hits

Indie newcomer Sidney Gish makes her Philadelphia debut this Wednesday; the New York-based songwriter is currently on the road touring solo behind her recent album No Dogs Allowed. If you’re not familiar with the release, it’s certainly worth digging into and may even rank among your favorite albums of 2018. Gish will be joined by Philly locals Cherry and Shannen Moser for the show, which doubles as a birthday bash for gig promoter Mel Grinberg of Home Outgrown Presents. // 8 p.m., $10 – $12, AA // TIX + INFO – S.H.
