Texas-based singer-songwriter Molly Burch has just released her sophomore album, First Flower on Captured Tracks.

A Los Angeles native, Burch released her debut album, Please Be Mine, in 2017 after studying jazz vocal performance Performance at the University of North Carolina in Asheville. The album was a collection of songs with their hooks in the sounds of 70s Laurel Canyon, nods to the Girl Groups of the 60s, various steos into the past yet sounding current. Burch’s new album continues to build on her debut. It’s the kind of record, says The Fader, that “sends you into another era.”

Burch’s vocals have a chanteuse lilt to them. She’s a fan of Billie Holiday, Nina Simone, and Dusty Springfield, and has an understated, hypnotic singing style with a sweet, smokey range. The songs are complemented by the exquisite guitar playing of Dailey Toliver. Below, listen to “Wild.”

Burch begins a national tour and plays Johnny Brenda’s in Philadelphia on Monday, October 15th.
