It’s been a while since we’ve heard from infamous Philly rockers The Extraordinaires. The band released its last album, Dress for Nasty Weather, back in 2012 and have pretty much kept quiet ever since, its members moving on to new projects. Until now, that is.

This year, Extraordinaires songwriters Jay Purdy and Matt Gibson are bringing the band back. Their entire catalogue, most of which is currently available on Bandcamp, will be released on Spotify next month. But them most exciting piece of news is that in just a few short weeks, we’ll be able to see The Extraordinaires live, as they take the stage at PhilaMOCA on February 6 to revisit their storied past with a deep dive into their catalogue, which reaches back to the early aughts.

It’s sure to be an interesting evening — according to a press release, this is just some of what the show will entail:

From their rock musical ‘Ribbons of War’ to their hodgepodge low fi collection in ‘Short Stories’ and their Nikola Tesla bio-record ‘Electric and Benevolent’ they will curate and perform a collection of online requests and personal favorites. Special guests will include Justin Wolf (Lux Perpetua, original lead guitarist), animator Chris Thomas and the puppet cast from the award winning stop-motion animated western “Hi-Five the Cactus” (based on The Extraordinaires song) and live dynamic projections by Mike Raftery of 86Reality.

Burnt Nurse (ex-Armchairs) and singer/songwriter Tavo Carbone will open the show. Watch the “Hi-Five the Cactus” animation below, and find tickets and more information on the XPN Concert Calendar.
