London-based soul-pop songwriter Nilüfer Yanya has announced that her debut full-length album, Miss Universe, will be released on March 22. Along with the announcement, she’s shared a second single from the forthcoming record, the extremely catchy “In Your Head.”

The video for “In Your Head” was filmed in the desert near Las Vegas by Yanya’s frequent collaborator ENERGYFORCE. We previously heard “Heavyweight Champion of the Year,” the 17-track album’s closing song, back in November. You may remember Yanya from last year’s NonCOMM, where she blew us away with her short but impressive set.

Yanya shared the following statement about her inspiration for “In Your Head.”

“Sometimes my mind plays tricks on me and I get trapped. There’s the things I need disguised as things I think I only want, things I think I’m choosing out of choice not necessity. Sometimes this only becomes clear in retrospect, or maybe it will never become clear. Some people may call that being paranoid. I think that’s what I wrote the song about, but what’s interesting to me, and what I think I was trying to get at, is the illusion of freedom.”

Nilüfer Yanya will hit the road with Sharon Van Etten next month, making a stop at Union Transfer on February 7. Find tickets and more information on the XPN Concert Calendar.
