Liz Fraser of Cocteau Twins performed with Massive Attack at the Mezzanine XXI tour kickoff in Scotland
The ethereal voice of Cocteau Twins singer Liz Fraser is a central part of Mezzanine, the 1998 album by groundbreaking UK electronic music trio Massive Attack — so much so that an anniversary tour celebrating the album without Fraser in person to perform her parts would be severely lacking. Thankfully, the band has Fraser on board for the Mezzanine XXI tour, which kicked off last night at the SSE Hydro arena in Glasgow, Scotland.
As Pitchfork notes, Fraser joined the band on “Teardrop,” “Black Milk,” ”Dissolved Girl” — her signature songs on Mezzanine — and you can watch fan videos of all three performances below. Fraser was reportedly also on hand for a cover of “I Found a Reason” by The Velvet Underground, while the stage was illuminated by visuals from the band’s Robert Del Naja and filmmaker Adam Curtis, who says “The show tells the story of the strange journey we have all been on over the past twenty years since Mezzanine was released.”
