Instrumental guitar duo Rodrigo y Gabriela are about to return with their first album in five years. Called Mettavolution, it will be released on April 26, and the duo will head out on a US tour that brings them to Franklin Music Hall on May 17.
Mettavolution will be the sixth studio album from the long-running Rodrigo y Gabriela, who released their last LP 9 Dead Alive in 2014 and played XPN Fest that year. The new record will feature six original compositions by the Mexican acoustic musicians, plus an 18-minute cover of Pink Floyd’s “Echoes,” which is out now. Rodrigo y Gabriela shared the following in a press release.
“We are big Pink Floyd fans. That track, specially the Live at Pompeii version means a lot to us – we even made a huge visual reference in our video for ‘Hanuman.’ Besides that, the lyrics are even more relevant now than they were 45 years ago. The search for knowledge about ourselves, it’s becoming a key element for survival these days. That’s what evolution is all about at the end of the day.”
