Perennial psychedelic pop/rock favorites The Flaming Lips announced their first large-scale tour since the COVID-19 pandemic this week, and after a couple warm-up dates out west, they’ll begin the run on November 7th at The Fillmore Philadelphia.

The band’s shows are always scenes of offbeat, cosmic pageantry; to support their 2020 album American Head, The Flaminbg Lips a handful of concerts in their hometown of Oklahoma City last year and early this year that put a unique spin on social distancing: the band, and audience, were encased in inflatable plastic “space bubbles” of the sort that frontperson Wayne Coyne is known for using to surf on the outstretched hands of fans.

No word yet on whether the Filmore crowd will be required to attend in bubbles — or conversely, whether bubbles will be an option — but tickets go on sale May 6th at 10 a.m., and more information can be found here. Due to the unpredictability of the Coronavirus pandemic, show details are subject to change; as of May 4th, the Fillmore website’s extensive COVID-19 section says “Face coverings are mandatory and must be worn at all times except while eating and drinking,” and also outlines a clear plastic bag policy to reduce staff contact with personal belongings.
