Little Children may also remind you of Bon Iver or Loney Dear, and words like sincere, contemplative and mysterious come to mind when listening to the band’s infectious songs including “Falling.” Another song from the forthcoming EP, ““Distant Shouts,” was featured on Grey’s Anatomy in March and introduced Little Children to a much wider audience. Little Children released its debut album, In Silence, in 2010, and released the In Hau EP this past January. A new EP, Falling, is out on June 4th on Declared Goods Records.

Singer, actress and model Lou Doillon is the half-sister of Charlotte Gainsbourg; her father being director Jacques Doillon and her mother actress and singer Jane Birkin. Doillon will release her debut album, Places, on June 18 on Verve Records. Doillon’s album showcases her frank, honest and warm voice. The songs on her debut are stunning and striking, and recall the work of Karen Ann and Cat Power. Below, download “ICU,” and watch the video for another song on the album, “Devil or Angel.”

Currently based in Brooklyn, the five piece Lucius features Jess Wolfe and Holly Laessig, an incredibly talented dynamic duo. The band released its self-titled EP in March, 2012 and are releasing their debut album in the Fall. Randall Bramblett releases his new CD, The Bright Spots, next Tuesday, May 14th on New West Records. Bramblett’s music incorporates rock, blues and R&B and he’s a prolific musician. The Georgia born multi-instrumentalist and singer-songwriter has had a solo career and has performed and recorded with The Allman Brothers, Traffic, Gov’t Mule, Widespread Panic, and Levon Helm. When The Allman Brothers initially disbanded in the mid 70′s, Bramblett formed the fusion leaning rock band Sea Level with Allman’s keyboardist Chuck Leavell, bassist Lamar Williams and drummer Jaimoe. As a songwriter, one of Bramblett’s biggest fans is Bonnie Raitt, who recorded several of his songs including “Use To Rule The World” from her most recent album, Slipstream. Only 20 years old when he released his now classic and influential Inspiration Information in 1974, Shuggie Otis dropped out of sight until recently when he announced a tour and a reissue of the album with a second disc of previously unreleased material, Inspiraton Information/Wings Of Love. The son of Johnny Otis, Shuggie released his debut album in 1969. He was 15 when he collaborated with Al Kooper on Super Session, Vol, II, played bass with Frank Zappa (that’s Shuggie on “Peaches On Regalia”), and wrote “Strawberry Letter #23″ that became a hit for The Brothers Johnson. While out on tour with Lower Dens, Tanton began work on his new project focusing less on guitar based music and more on the use of samples and electronics. The resulting album, They’re Flowers, was recorded and performed primarily by himself and includes a guest appearance from Dave Hartley, bassist for The War On Drugs and frontman/leader of Nightlands. Austin, Texas based singer-songwriter Kat Edmonson has been added to the lineup to this year’s XPoNemtial Music Festival presented by Subaru on July 26-28 at Wiggins Park. Recently signed to Sony Mastewrworks, Edmonson’s work is inspired by legends like Lyle Lovett, but her music also has elements of jazz and blues. Kat’s recent album, Way Down Low is out now. The Features are a four piece from Nashville fronted by Matthew Pelham. They release their new self-titled album on May 14. One of Nashville’s best live bands, The Features can go many musical places. They can go classic rock and they can go Krautrock. They can drop some psychedelia, then shift to southern soul. The band has created a quirky, well crafted, yet accessible collection of songs on their new record. Sometimes they sound like Spoon, or The Tragically Hip, or the Sir Douglas Quintet, but mostly they are a band with a unique musical voice worth hearing. The band starts a tour right here in Philly at Milkboy Philly on Wednesday, May 8. The Postal Service – Ben Gibbard (Death Cab for Cutie) and prodcer Jimmy Tamborello (Dntel) – have reunited for a tour and the 10th anniversary release of Give Up, a collection of electro-pop songs that has a lasting influence on indie rock since its release in February, 2003. No one foresaw the influence the record would have. The album’s most popular song “Such Great Heights,” began to seep into the zietgeist of pop culture over a period of a couple of years. It was covered by Iron & Wine on the 2004 film and soundtrack, Garden State, and was prominently featured on Greys Anatomy in 2005. The band has not released a second album, however have taken the anniversary of Give Up’s release to tour, which bring them to The Mann Center on Monday, June 17.

The deluxe edition of Give Up features two new songs, “A Tattered Line of String” and “Turn Around.” Below, download “A Tattered Line Of String.”

Ola Podrida is the musical project of Texan David Wingo. An acclaimed indie artist, Wingo has also written and recorded soundtracks for several movies including Take Shelter (winner of the Grand Prix at Cannes in 2011), MUD (starring Matthew McConaughey and Reese Witherspoon), and Prince Avalanche (starring Paul Rudd and Emile Hirsch and co-composed with Explosions In The Sky). Since the last Ola Podrida release (2009′s Belly of The Lion) and in between his movie work, Wingo assembled a live band featuring Colin Swietek on guitars, Matt Clark on bass, and David Hobizal on drums and recorded a new album, Ghosts Go Blind,, which is being released on Western Vinyl next Tuesday, April 30th.

The band releases a new EP, Harbour, today. After the band released its debut, they found two quick fans in Counting Crows’ Adam Durwitz and Ryan Spaulding of the prestigious and popular RSL Music Blog (Ryan’s Smashing Life.) and they invited Fort Frances to perform at their Outlaw Roadshow at this year’s SXSW.

Fronted by lead vocalist David McMillin, Fort Frances have a warm, melodic and versatile sound, filled with gorgeous songs that vary in dynamics. There’s a little bit of a Wilco vibe, a little bit of David Gray, a little bit of roots and rock and roll. You definitely want to keep your eyes on this band. Shawnee, Oklahoma singer-songwriter Samantha Crain recently released her third album, Kid Face on Ramseur Records. Of Choctaw Indian descent, Crain is an excellent story teller and contextualizes themes of loss, escape and love in her intimate and beautiful folk songs.

From Philadelphia, The Lawsuits are songwriter, guitarist and lyricist Brian Dale Allen Strouse, lead singer Vanessa Winter, bassist Brendan Michael Cunningham, Josh Friedman on drums and Noah Skaroff on guitar, banjo, saxophone and various other instruments. The band is getting ready to release its new album, Cool Cool Cool, this summer. Produced by Bill Moriarty, “Onion” is the first single from the new album. Download the song for free below. The Lawsuits are opening for Grandchildren’s CD Release at Johnny Brenda’s on Friday. May 3rd. They are co-headlining with New Sweden at the Hard Rock Cafe in Philadelphia on May 10th. The London band Still Corners releases its new album, Strange Pleasures on May 7th on Sub Pop Records. SInger Tessa Murray and producer/multi-instrumentalist Greg Hughes formed the band in 2007 and released their debut album, Creatures of an Hour, in 2011. In 2010 the band released the single “Endless Summer,” which caught the attention of music fans and bloggers with its sunshiny, dreamy indie-beach vibe that captured the spirit of Phil Spector’s Wall of Sound with elements of blissed out Jesus and Mary Chain. On the band’s new album, they continue to hone their commitment to 80′s synth and dream-pop with excellent results.
