Snooze Alarm: Your late-arriving, extremely substantial link roundup, 9/21/10

It is a slooow day for local-music-related news, folks. So, today, we present a little bonus coverage featuring other important stories going on in Philly.

Melissa Auf Der Maur Brings “Out Of Our Minds” To Philly “We’re not gonna lie — we used to have a mad crush on flame-haired bassist Melissa Auf der Maur. We’re over it now, but we still love and admire MAdM for her fine musical ability and the fact that she’s somehow remained mostly unsullied after that long association with Courtney Love (and Billy Corgan, too, come to think of it)…If you’re as interested in seeing it as we are, Melissa is coming to the Galleries at Moore College (20th & the Parkway) on Thursday, October 14th, at 6 p.m. (her first Philly appearance in some time) to show the film and follow it with a Q&A.” (Make Major Moves)

Experience Slow Food Philadelphia at Dig In on October 3 “In just a few weeks, a team of representatives from Philadelphia (including one from Philly Homegrown) will be headed to the bi-annual Terre Madre International Conference in Turin, Italy. Before the delegation hits the road, the Philly Slow Food chapter wants to share a bit of our local, Slow Food-style products and producers with the community. Join them on Sunday, October 3 from 12 noon until 3 p.m. downstairs at the World Cafe Live in University City. The event will feature food, beer, music, food demos, and exhibitors that live the Slow Food philosophy.” (Uwishunu)

Here We Go Again: More Violent Attacks On Asian Kids At A South Philly School “The longer this all drags out, the more it begins to feel as if African-American-on-Asian violence is something that’s just been sickly built in to the culture of schools in South Philadelphia. With the school year only just a few weeks underway, a report of attacks on Asian kids has already surfaced. This time, the victims were ‘two newly arrived Chinese immigrants’ at Edward W. Bok Technical High School at Ninth & Mifflin Sts…” (Philebrity)

Bodysuited Phillies Field Jumper Gets Tripped Up Earlier this season a field jumping Phillies fan got tased making national headlines. On Monday night all it took to stop a field jumper was Braves outfielder Matt Diaz. In the bottom of the seventh inning with the Phils leading 3-1 in the critical NL East battle, Sean Hagan, dressed in a red full bodysuit reminiscent of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia’s Green Man bolted onto the Citizens Bank Park field. Fans were speculating that he drank too much “riot punch.” (NBC Philadelphia)
