Snooze Alarm: Your late-arriving link roundup, 9/27/10

Philadelphia’s music scene doesn’t get up early enough for a morning roundup. While the rest of the world is sipping on their lattes and reading about international affairs, we’re nursing our hangovers and trying to shake the ringing out of our ears. But that doesn’t mean we don’t like to (eventually) stay informed. Snooze Alarm presents Philly’s most important local-music-related news, whenever the scene finally gets around to making it (and the rest of us are ready to read it).

Free Energy’s long and winding road “Free Energy moved to Philadelphia two years ago for the least romantic – and most rock-and-roll – of reasons. It was cheap. ‘There’s romance now,’ says Paul Sprangers, the lead singer of the Fishtown rock band, on a frigid afternoon in March at the South by Southwest Music Festival in Austin, Texas. ‘We love it.’” (Philadelphia Inquirer)

LCD Soundsystem & Sleigh Bells rock the naval yard “The creators of Making Time have outdone themselves this summer. For their ten year anniversary, the legendary Philadelphia party throwers have been organizing some of the best ragers in the city, and inviting some amazing guests to make their gatherings more like events than parties: the goal seems to be to create something that people will talk about for weeks/months/years to come. Making Time’s summer of ultimate radness reached its apex Friday night, when Philadelphians of all ages and walks of life packed the Naval Yard to see two bands known for their raucous music and equally insane live performances; LCD Soundsystem and Sleigh Bells.” (Phrequency)

John Legend & The Roots Cover Arcade Fire “Arcade Fire were the stars of the Terry Gilliam-directed first installment of American Express, VEVO, and YouTube’s five-part UNSTAGED series. They show up in this new edition, too, via John Legend & The Roots’ cover of “Wake Up.” It took place at Terminal 5, NYC. Spike Lee directed.” (Stereogum)

Pains Of Being Pure At Heart Coming To Pilam “We’ve really missed seeing shows at West Philly’s Pilam house, as they seem to have become a rarity, so we’re glad to report on a biggie coming up in a few weeks. None other than NYC noise-pop phenoms the Pains of Being Pure at Heart will be headlining on Friday, October 22nd, with opening sets from two great local bands — the Homophones and Creepoid — plus New Jersey/U.K./Japan combo Yuck. This has all the makings of a killer show, and yes, it’s all-ages.” (Make Major Moves)

Right Now In The People’s Republic Of Comcast: Regular Chap From Delancey Place To Head NBC Universal “With controversial NBC Universal CEO Jeff Zucker having announced on Friday that he’ll be leaving his post once Comcast transitions in as the new boss, it was announced today that Comcast COO Stephen Burke (pictured) will take Zucker’s place — thus bringing to life things first seen on 30 Rock. You may recall Burke’s name — recently, he became the owner of the highest-priced rowhome in Philadelphia history. No word on whether the Delancey Place address has a teleport-to-NYC room, or if it’s just a big version of that air-tube thingy that they have at the bank drive-thru.” (Philebrity)
