Angel Olsen‘s third album, Your Woman, was one of our favorite records of 2016 and she continues to support it in 2017, with a string of February tour dates (see below) and a new music video for “Pops.”

Shot in Asheville, North Carolina, the video was directed by Olsen and Jethro Waters, and it follows her as she takes a contemplative drive through the mist-filled autumn scenery of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Check it out below and revisit her recent World Cafe session with Talia Schalnger here. Continue reading →

Last Fall, singer/songwriter Angel Olsen released My Woman to critical acclaim. Now, she’s teamed up with NPR for not one, but two new live sessions. The first, released earlier this week, is a more traditional full-band session and interview on World Cafe, while the latter, released Friday, is a stark solo performance in a Bronx church for NPR’s fantastic Field Recordings series. They stand in sharp contrast to one another, but both demonstrate her considerable vocal talents on full display. Continue reading →

The Indie Rock Hit Parade is headed your way tonight at 11pm ET on WXPN! Rather than duck in your indie rock-proof subterranean bunker, listen in for a full-two hour show that has some very interesting things going on. Since we’ll be knee-deep in our XPN Long Hots Labor Day Weekend special, we’ll hear a few supersized jams from Panda Bear and The Juan Maclean. We’ve got another Album Spotlight to get to; this time on the new album from chameleonic singer-songwriter Angel Olsen. My Woman, her third full-length, is a wild masterwork of ballads, boppers and rockers, and we’ll dig into it in the second hour of tonight’s show. In the mix you’ll also hear new tracks from Swedish politi-shoegazers The Radio Dept., Florida party-crashers Jacuzzi Boys and Montreal psych-conjurers Elephant Stone. Check out those tunes below…

Singer-songwriter Angel Olsen recently released Burn Your Fire For No Witness, her debut on Jagjaguwar records. The Missouri born musician released her first full length album, Half Way Home, in 2012 to critical acclaim, and first garnered attention as a back up singer with Bonnie “Prince” Billy. Where Olsen’s Half Way Home was marked by indie-folk, a little bit of twang and acoustic guitars, Burn Your Fire has a much fuller sound and yet her enchanting vocals and stories remain up front in the mix, with a mix of folk, country and psychedelia swirling throughout the songs. Below, via NPR Music’s Heavy Rotation download “High & Wild” from Angel’s new album.

Olsen plays Johnny Brenda’s on Wednesday, May 14th.
