Lithuania faces a turbulent world on the new album White Reindeer

Philly punk rock trio Lithuania aren’t ones to allow for weeks and months of buzz leading up to a new release to build — they’d much rather catch everyone off guard by sending an entire album out into the world without any notice. At least, that’s what their latest news would have you think. The new album, White Reindeer, is out now digitally; it’s the band’s first full-length since 2015’s Hardcore Friends. Lithuania is made up of Dr. Dog drummer and solo artist Eric Slick, DRGN King’s Dominic Angelella (who also recently released a solo album) and Deleted Scenes’ Ricardo Lagomasino. Continue reading →

Tis the season of Yacht Rock, and what better way to celebrate than with a Steely Dan tribute show chock full of some of our favorite artists?

Eric Slick and The Talkhouse curated Reelin’ In the Years: a Tribute to Steely Dan as a spin-off of an in-depth piece the Dr. Dog drummer wrote, and they’ve wrangled members of Speedy Ortiz, Laser Background, The So So Glos, and Ava Luna, along with Ian Sweet, Twiga, Bad Faces and Slick’s own Dan-influenced Lithuania to be a part of it.

“Living life and living a lie / and wonder why I even bother?” Welcome to the existential dread of adulthood, Lithuania will be your guide. The Philly indie-rockers charge into oblivion on their latest effort “Holy Water,” seeking a solution to the dichotomy between an appetite for independence and a necessity to fill the voids that loneliness carves out. Lithuania releases a fierce new single to benefit Women Against Abuse

“Sometimes we have to let go of things we love, especially when they’re hurting us,” Eric Slick tells Post Trash. “Abuse is still everywhere.” Slick’s band Lithuania found themselves in that position of letting go, in an indirect sense, when they cut ties with old label Seagreen Records this spring amid allegations of abuse. Unfortunately, Slick is right about it being everywhere. In the music world alone this year, we’ve read stories about high-powered publicists and producers behaving deplorably. In the world-world, well, Stanford. And combating this tide of misogyny and violence takes advocates and allies – which is why Lithuania is donating proceeds from their new single to the local organization Women Against Abuse.

The song, “Kill the Thing You Love,” is out today via Lame-O Records as a name-your-own-price download, and like the band’s Hardcore Friends LP, it’s revved up and fierce. The band premiered it on Post-Trash, where Slick spoke of the song’s underlying meaning. Continue reading →

This Saturday, May 14th, the Love On The Streets festival (presented by Wahoo’s) will be held at Paines Park in Philadelphia. The festival, now in its second year, will feature food, beer, a skateboarding competition (with a grand prize of $2,000), and a huge line-up of Philly artists welcomed by XPN. It all starts at 12 noon on Saturday, and attendance is free.

Since there will be SO much going on at the festival on Saturday, we figured we should do a breakdown of all the bands that will be performing to make sure you know what you’re in for: nine hours of music, art, food, and everything else that makes Philly such a cool place to be.

The Music: XPN will be presenting the Mad Dragon stage at Love On the Streets, which will feature over 10 bands and DJs performing throughout the course of the day. Here’s a rundown of everyone that will be performing. Continue reading →

The Key Presents: Lithuania

Rock and roll just feels damn good. Like an ice cold beer on a scorching summer day, it quenches a deep-seated human thirst. Longtime veterans on the Philly rock scene front, both Eric Slick and Dom Angelella know this fact instinctively.

Ten years in the making, their collaborative project Lithuania hits the spot — hard. It’s no-nonsense, no-frills rock and roll for the everyman. Their debut record Hardcore Friends (out last year on Lame-O Records) took a scorched earth policy towards songwriting: Go hard and leave it all on the table. Live, it’s even stronger. After seeing them open up for a Districts/mewithoutYou secret show in late 2014, I knew Lithuania was gonna be the Philly band to beat in the near future. Continue reading →

Lame-O Records is one of Philadelphia’s best up-and-coming punk rock independent record labels. The label – which put out this year’s Bad Year by The Superweaks, Hardcore Friends from Lithuania, and Tropical Depression from Steady Hands – has just put out their eleventh release of the year, a 2015 sampler. The 12-track sampler includes tracks from current roster artists such as Modern Baseball, Year of Glad, Three Man Cannon, and Lowercase Roses as well as from newer “bands you didn’t even know were Lame-O bands!” Continue reading →
