Austin, Texas rock and roll force of nature Sweet Spirit just got added to the XPoNential Music Festival, and excitement for them is high around here at XPN HQ. They played a powerful #FreeAtNoon concert this spring in support of their new album St. Mojo, following it up with a set that night at Manayunk’s Dawson Street Pub. More recently, the band was named  XPN’s Artist to Watch for the month of May.

Today, in addition to the news that they’ll be on XPNFest, we’re excited to bring you Sweet Spirit’s new music video for “The Power” from St. Mojo. It sees the band performing to a lab-coat crowd in a dystopian, clinical setting before exploding into Flaming Lips-y glittery light and color on the chorus, where frontwoman Sabrina Ellis sings about being the person you want to be, and discovering that person within. Austin’s Sweet Spirit stopped by World Cafe Live while in town supporting their sophomore LP St. Mojo, a record with track after track of confident rock that is pure fun.

Last Friday, President Trump passed an excutive order barring citizens of seven primarily Muslim countries from entering the United States for 90 days. If you’ve been anywhere other than under a rock since then, you’re aware this decision has sparked quite a bit of controversy, and now, Pat Cassidy is adding his voice to those in opposition. Earlier today, The Districts’ guitarist shared two new songs under his Sweet Vermilion moniker, “Daybreak//Misunderstanding” and “Patient Sounds”. All proceeds will benefit the International Refugee Assistance Project, and you can download them now via his Bandcamp page. Continue reading →
