Philadelphia’s Camp Candle appear on the latest episode of The 25 O’Clock podcast. The electronic duo of Mark “Nu Ra” Cave and Briana “Hetepsa” Mills sat down with podcast host Dan Drago for the 106th episode of the podcast. The duo discussed their beginnings, going through the collaborative songwriting process as a duo, and the changing landscape of different Philly neighborhoods. Continue reading →
Philly electronic duo Camp Candle (Mark “Nu Ra” Cave and Briana “Hetepsa” Mills) just dropped a music video for their new single, “Save Me.” In it, Mills wanders along a dreary beach, waves lapping along the shore. The setting is ethereal, shrined in a glassy quiet, Mills swaying in contented isolation.
It’s a good compliment to the song, which was released last month — Mills has a captivating voice that snakes its way into your bones. Her cadence seems fit for R&B, but somehow pairs well with the funky 80’s dance rhythms woven by Cave, creating a vibrant tapestry of sound that blankets the listener. Continue reading →
In their very meta new music video for “Feelin’ A Way,” Philly duo Camp Candle wants to make a clip as iconic as Michael Jackon’s “Rock With You.” But, as singer / guitarist Hetepsa tells her bandmate Nu Ra, “We don’t have Michael Jackson money. We’ve got a whole $8 in the bank.” What follows is a creative and funny video about being creative, and having fun. Continue reading →
Camp Candle had a busy June, releasing a video for their latest single “Before the Night,” filming a Pizza Party Session, recording an Out of Town podcast episode, and announcing a show at Johnny Brenda’s for next month.
Camp Candle were one of the most exciting discoveries we made here at The Key last year. The introduction came by way of an interview with producer / multi-instrumentalist Nu Ra and singer / guitarist Hetepsa around the release of their electronic / pop record ERE, and now it’s apparent the grooving will continue on a new EP dropping next month.
Local electro-pop duo Camp Candle headline Boot & Saddle tonight. The band released its debut EP EREthis past summer, sharing a collection of atmospheric, synth-driven songs that highlight Hetepsa and Nu Ra’s sonic chemistry. Watch a video for the more recent “One Day, My Friend” below and pick up tickets for the 21+ show here.
Similar to previous videos for tracks like “Weapons” and “Mr. P”, the clip is comprised mostly of the band dancing and singing around Philadelphia with friends. Much of the video was shot right outside of World Cafe Live and on the paths snaking through Penn Park, and the band looks like they’re having a blast. With the current trend in videos often skewing towards appearing as stoic and aloof as possible, this is a welcome breath of fresh air from the tight jeans and pseudo-nihilism that the kids are so into these days. Just last month the Philadelphia duo Camp Candle released their music video for “Feelin’ A Way,” and now they’re back with another release titled “Save Me” from their upcoming, yet to be titled album. As you listen, you feel as if you’re standing on a beach with the sun gently brushing up against your face. The flow of the melody resembles rising and falling tides. Not to mention, vocalist/guitarist Hetepsa’s soft vocals do a perfect job of enhancing that wave-like melody.
If you’re not familiar, Camp Candle has made a splash around the local scene over the past couple years, fusing genres such as hip-hop, pop, and electronic rock to create songs that make you feel some type of way. With that in mind, I’m curious to see what their upcoming EP will sound like. Hopefully we get a taste when Camp Candle plays at the TCC Art & Music Festival in Schwenksville; for Philly folks, they’ll be at The Pharmacy on June 22nd and Ortlieb’s on July 12th, and you can get details at the XPN Concert Calendar. Philadelphia duo Camp Candle gets seductively groovy with their newest single “Feelin A Way”. The band’s last track, “RUN,” dropped in 2017, and now Nu Ra and Hetepsa are back with an abstract yet simple track that incorporates hip-hop accented electric-pop elements.Continue reading →
Philly duo Camp Candle have had a solid couple days, between meeting Selena Gomez and dropping their latest single. The brooding synthrock anthem “RUN” arrives with no label, just founding duo Nu Ra and Hetepsa, and behind the song’s ominous synth patchwork and pulsating beats lies a glimmer of hope, an ever-present Camp Candle component. Take it for a spin below, and keep tabs on the band’s Facebook page for more. Continue reading →
