The release day for Citizen Cope’s new record, Heroin and Helicopters, was full of good vibes and enthusiasm, from his Free at Noon at WXPN to a packed house at the Franklin Music Hall. Heroin is Cope’s first album in seven years, and is released on his own label, Rainwater Recordings.
The last time we heard from Cope was on his 2012 album, One Lovely Day, and he came back stronger than ever. At the Franklin Music Hall, hs intricate combination of alternative rock and soul filled the room with smiles from an audience who was very excited for their first listen to the new music. Italy’s JoyCut are bringing a world tour to Johnny Brenda’s tonight in support of its latest LP PiecesOfUsWereLeftOnTheGround. The Bologna-based electronic trio was introduced to wider audiences through tours with Arcade Fire and Modest Mouse, winning over crowds with their optimistically upbeat dark-wave compositions. Clarence Greenwood, more commonly known by his stage name Citizen Cope, has just announced that he’ll be playing a solo acoustic show at the Merriam Theater on October 18th. The singer/songwriter has been songwriting and touring for over a decade now. His latest full length, One Lovely Day, came out in July of 2012, and is available now. Indie chillwave artist Toro y Moi comes to Union Transfer tonight. Born Chaz Bundick, the South Carolina native just released his third studio album Anything in Return. Where his previous recordings were experimental collages of sonic textures and patterns, Anything in Return broadens Bundick’s palette to pair jazz and R&B structures alongside his staccato production style.
