This morning, Jeremy Lloyd of Philly favorites Marian Hill shared a remix of the song as covered by LA artists Charlie Puth and Oakland’s Kehlani. The Cali folks dropped their rendition of the song a few weeks back (predating Smith and Disclosure’s higher-profile version), and Lloyd’s remix features the addition of a particularly badass verse by Armani White, one of our favorite rappers on the Philly scene right now. As Marian Hill‘s star keeps rising, they’ve started mixing some auxiliary projects in with their own official releases. The local electro-pop duo recorded a cover of Kanye’s 2008 single “Love Lockdown” back in March, and now they’ve shared a remix of The Weeknd’s “Earned It,” which features on the Fifty Shades of Grey Remixed compilation. Philadelphia Eagles’ defensive linebacker Connor Barwin has announced the lineup to his second annual Make The World Better Charity Concert on June 20th at Union Transfer. This year’s lineup includes indie-rocker Mac Demarco, the Houston soul band The Suffers, and Philly’s electronica group Marian Hill.

Valentine’s day is over, but Marian Hill, composed of Philly natives and longtime collaborators Samantha Gongol and Jeremy Lloyd, continues to spice it up with steamy, electropop beats on Sway, their latest EP released today via Photo Finish / Republic Records.
Gongol’s sultry lyrics stand out best on tracks like, “Deep” (which premiered via Complex yesterday) with Gongol crooning at the start of it, “Turning over in my bed / Lose myself to dreams instead,” showing they’ve conquered an electronic/pop/R&B hybrid and made it all their own. Continue reading →
