Adult Mom | photo via adultmom.bandcamp.com

New York indie outfit Adult Mom announced a string of mid-December solo house shows last week, and just as we were beginning to fear that Philly wouldn’t be on the list, they announced an extra-stacked PhilaMOCA gig. The December 29 show is a welcome addition Philly’s already-lengthy lineup of holiday season gigs, and features sets from Scranton’s Petal and new breakout act Fire is Motion. Continue reading →

You may have caught Petal in stunning solo form recently at that fantastic show with Julien Baker and Half Waif, and now the Scranton-based project of Kiley Lotz returns to Philly for another solo performance — this time on a smaller-scale, at Everybody Hits, but the show is sure to be no less beautiful and even more intimate than it was on the big stage. Born Without Bones, Super American and Tombo Crush will also play the Home Outgrown Presents gig. Petal’s latest release is the Comfort EP, which includes a cover of Fleetwood Mac’s “Silver Springs.” Listen below and find tickets and more information on the XPN Concert Calendar. Adorned in rainbow face-paint and glittery makeup, and surrounded by special-guest friends, PWR BTTM shared their forthcoming sophomore effort Pageant with Talia Schlanger and the World Cafe crew in a session that premiered yesterday over on NPR.

In addition to the VuHaus video of “Answer My Text” that accompanied the session, which highlighted just one of the standout singles we’ve gotten to preview ahead of the LP’s May 12th release, the team also captured the short and spunky “Now Now” featuring backing vocals from Petal‘s Kiley Lotz.

My wife has a pretty solid rule about making mixtapes — if you’re ever stuck, just add some Talking Heads. It never fails, and applies equally awesomely to cover songs in concert setlists as well — as we recently saw when Petal opened for Kevin Devine and Foxing and slayed with a solo rendition of “This Must Be the Place (Naive Melody)” from David Byrne & co.’s 1983 outing Speaking in Tongues.
