It hasn’t been long since Screaming Females released their new record, All At Once, and it’s been an even shorter time since they tore up Union Transfer in support of it. Still, if you’ve been longing for more Screamales in your life lately, then the band’s latest news should do the trick. Thanks to a collaboration with Philly experimental artist Moor Mother and rapper Sammus — both labelmates on Don Giovanni Records — one of the tracks off All At Once now has a totally different sound. April Fool’s updates:

Swearin’ is back. HIRS is putting out an album with Shirley Manson from Garbage. Erik B. and Rakim are at the TLA. Oh, and Lou Barlow is playing a small show in a park on the Schuylkill in Southwest Philly. Did I mention that Sheer Mag is recording an album with Hall and Oates? Because that is totally happening.

Okay, so maybe one of those is a lie. I’ll let you figure it out on your own. But as usual in this great city of ours, there’s so much awesome stuff happening that even the absurd seems plausible. I mean, the Eagles won the Super Bowl! Anything can happen. Continue reading →

Local sweethearts and rockers extraordinaire Screaming Females released their seventh album All At Once on Don Giovanni Records last weekend. If you haven’t given it a spin yet, you really should. The double LP – 15 tracks on one record and demos and an AV Club session on the other – is both impressive in scope and incredibly hard hitting and catchy. So catchy. This is nothing out of the ordinary for the long-standing band, which started in New Brunswick back in 2005, but it’s still very exciting.

That’s actually a bit of a lie: this album is so good and so sonically expansive that it very much is rather extraordinary and to claim otherwise wouldn’t be fair to anyone. Just listen to that first track, “Glass House”, and revel in Marissa Paternoster’s heady guitar licks and her soaring vocals that reach out and match the music in intensity. Continue reading →

After releasing their head-banger single, “Black Moon,” a few weeks ago, Jersey rockers Screaming Females are back; this time with a video for their new track, “Glass House,” as introduction to their upcoming album All At Once — out on February 28th via Don Giovanni Records.

As Screaming Females have been kicking for more than ten years, they’ve had time to explore their capacity as musicians — and in their new track, “Glass House,” they’re trying something new: patient simplicity. With expert calculation and sparse arrangements, the “Glass House” is able to carve out a sound striking and severe. Continue reading →

With an extensive discography under their belts already, Screaming Females add another single to the list: “Black Moon,” their first release since their 2015 album Rose Mountain. And after more than ten years of touring, they’ve just announced a fall tour as well, which kicks off on September 24th.

The band is revered for their heavy rock and roll style driven by singer-guitarist Marissa Paternoster, as well as their heart-wrenching lyrics, and describes “Black Moon” as “[a] four-minute long ripper about the earth abandoning humanity, syphoned through the near-universal experience of ending a relationship.” The single was made available only at Spina Records in New Brunswick, NJ, pressed onto a limited edition 7″.
