Philly soul singer-songwriter Aaron Parnell Brown recently stopped by Daytrotter to record some tunes. The four-track session features songs from both of Parnell’s albums, Soul and The Tin Man.

For an artist whose music is usually filled with sultry sax lines and gospel vocal harmonies, Brown’s Daytrotter session is much more stripped-down by comparison. His only instrument over the course of the entire session? An acoustic guitar. Continue reading →

Listen to Aaron Parnell Brown cover Stevie Wonder’s “Golden Lady”

Philly native and soul singer-songwriter Aaron Parnell Brown (of Aaron and the Spell) recently released teasers of tracks from his upcoming album The Tin Man. You may have recently caught him on XPN for “Philly’s Local Pick of the Day.”

Brown’s latest offering is a downright impressive rendition of Stevie Wonder’s “Golden Lady,” paying homage to one of his “all-time favorite songs.” The cover emphasizes the fact that Brown has the whole neo-soul thing down, while still deserving comparisons to the greats. After all, there’s a lot of hype surrounding his sophomoric album, considering 2012’s Sing helped him earn comparisons to soul masters like Otis Redding and Ben Harper. Listen to the cover below.
