Emerging Canadian singer-songwriter Alessia Cara played her debut concert in Philadelphia last night at Underground Arts. During the afternoon, she stopped by the XPN studios to chat with Mike Vasilikos about the immediate positive reception her music has received, as well as her songwriting process, her signing to the iconic Def Jam Records and more. It’s been a breakthrough summer for Toronto’s Alessia Cara. Bolstered by her hit song, “Here,” the 19 year old singer-songwriter is making her Philly debut on Tuesday, August 25th at Underground Arts.

Alessia’s debut EP, Four Pink Walls is out on August 28th. It’s been only a couple short years since she began uploading cover songs to YouTube including a cover of The Neighbourhood’s “Sweater Weather,” and it’s clear as day what some A&R person saw in these raw performances; a soulful, confident singer, with the potential of greatness.
