Alexi Murdoch playing First Unitarian Church; download the title track from his new album

Of the many singer-songwriters who have tried to carve out their own territory within the well-trodden Brit-folk landscape occupied by Nick Drake, John Martyn, and Richard Thompson, Alexi Murdoch has come the closest. The London-born musician has found a space that draws you in with intimacy and longing, evocative memory and moving story telling. It’s also a space of acoustic music defined by languid and soothing energy. It’s been five years since the release of his last full length record, Time Without Consequence—with a soundtrack stop along the way for the Sam Mendes film Away We Go. Murdoch, fiercely independent, is releasing his new album Towards The Sun on his own Zero Summer Records on March 8th. He’s also playing the First Unitarian Church on Wednesday, March 23rd. Download the title song below.

Alexi Murdoch performs at at 8 p.m. Wednesday, March 23rd, at First Unitarian Church (2125 Chestnut Street); tickets to the all-ages show are $22.
