Archawah fuses retro-soul and alternative pastiche on “Good Thang”

Bucks County native Chris Archibald continues his Archawah project with the new track “Good Thang,” which premiered over at Impose earlier this week. True to Archawah’s style, the cut is a fusion of earworm beats of the late 90s / early 00s alternative pastiche era (think White Town’s “Your Woman”), but with a heck of a lot of soul inspiration dug up from Stax and Motown. Of the song, Arch tells Impose it is “a false reality. There’s a lot of terrible things happening out there. We gotta keep our chins up for our own sanity.” Give a listen and grab a download below. The Key Studio Sessions: Archawah

Chances are, you already know Chris Archibald as the leader of the long-running Bucks County indie rock outfit Illinois. He’s a busy songwriter, so much so that one Illinois release (2009’s The Adventures of Kid Catastrophe) was broken up into a year’s worth of digital EP releases. Typically, the band takes several years between albums, and while he loves working with his longtime friends, Chris was in need of another outlet.

Enter Archawah, his solo project that debuted last year with the brilliant and serene single “Supermoon,” and subsequently released the 1 EP in January. As he told our Julie Miller at the time, the EP is the first of six we’ll hear from him this year. “Archawah is not going to wait around for anyone,” he said. “I’ll release my music when it is ready in my ears.” Continue reading →

Bucks County’s Chris Archibald, front-dude of the long-running modern rock band Illinois, just launched a new project called Archawah and an EP-a-month release series. This week he premiered a brand new music video from the project with our buds over at The Deli for the drifting, dreamy “Silvermoon.” It’s imaginative premise, where a kid dressed up as an astronaut and playing in the snow actually succeeds in blasting off into outer space. Watch it below, and keep tabs on Archawah over at Facebook. Continue reading →

Archawah is not going to wait around for anyone. I’ll release my music when it is ready in my ears.”

And so we have the premiere of Archawah 1, the first in a series of six EPs that Illinois frontman Chris Archibald will be releasing over the next year. As he told us over email, the songs earmarked for this solo project were written in the early mornings before heading out to his “real job.” With an initial intention for more traditional releases, Archibald grew impatient with the “slow rolling machine” of the music industry and decided to put the material out on his own terms.
